Feast another day?

Here’s a piss-off of a story for your Monday afternoon. With ripoffs like the WHEN A STRANGER CALLS remake raking in the cash, leading to crappier sequels, where are the good films to show us the way?

FEAST, which was executive produced by Wes Craven and directed by John Gulager, has been in limbo for a while now. The film has garnered mucho praise from the few who have seen it, but Miramax (or in this case, the Weinstein Co.), have yet to get off their asses and put the film out (and instead we get SCARY MOVIE 4 as a trade-off). What’s going on, you ask? A Cinema Blend reader explains:

I was B.S.ing with Judah Friedlander (American Splendor, Along Came Polly) and the topic came up on the consistantly delayed new horror flick Executive Produced by Wes Craven called Feast starring him, Balthazar Getty, Jason Mewes, and Henry Rollins. He said,

“They’re telling me now April. Maybe. I don’t know what the **** is going on, dude. I’ll believe it when I see it. First it was Christmas, then January 20th, so who the **** knows?”

Then I mentioned seeing the trailer for the flick on his website, WorldChampionOfTheWorld.com, shortly after it debuted…apparently exclusively his site had major traffic and he had to pull the trailer from the site. In regards to that he said,

“Well they [the Weinsteins] first gave me the thing to put on my website. Then I get this message from them to take it off. Now I’m getting a shitload of emails from dudes bein’ all ‘what the ****?!’ and shit.”

Miramax has almost always been an enigma to me. They do kickass stuff one minute (SIN CITY and its subsequent DVD), and stupid stuff the next (SIN CITY’s first DVD and of course the SCARY MOVIE sequels). I guess that’s what happens when you’re owned by Disney. One day we’ll be able to see what all the fuss is about, but in the meantime…
