I’ve been excited to check director John Fawcett’s newest effort, THE DARK, for awhile now. The good news is that I’ll get that chance when it hits on DVD in April. The bad news of course is that despite a cast that includes the outstanding Sean Bean and Maria Bello, it’s not getting a theatrical release.
Here’s what it’s all about – In an attempt to pull her family together, New Yorker Adelle (Bello) travels with her young daughter Sarah (Stuckey) to Wales to visit her father – James (Bean). The morning after they arrive, Sarah mysteriously vanishes in the ocean. While they desperately search for Sarah, they find themselves involved with a little girl who seems to have retuned from the dead to show them that in order to get Sarah back, they must follow the rule: “one of the living, for one of the dead.”
The buzz on this one so far has been nothing but positive. So we shouldn’t be at all surprised that this by all accounts quality, original, tightly acted horror flick can only find a home on video store shelves. Disgusted? Couldn’t care less? Spit some bullets about it below.
