*UPDATE*: Brent Bell and Matt Peterman gave us a heads up to let us know that American McGee didn’t work on the film after all. Another well-known designer, CliffyB (check out his site here) got the gig. Thanks for the heads-up guys!
You know, we have been ragging on Frankie Muniz and his next film a lot. I mean, the concept sounds kinda hokey in itself: A Disney horror film about a killer video game. It’s TRON to the next level.
Well, writers Brent Bell and Matt Peterman sent us a little message defending their flick. The guys have a good sense of humour about the whole thing, and said that the film originally wasn’t even Disney’s, and that after the film was made the evil mouse snatched it up. As for Frankie Muniz, the guys like him, but Muniz doesn’t take centre stage with the film. In other words, it’s not his movie.
The guys also pointed us in the direction of an article published by GameInformer on the film, and how American McGee would be designing the video game effects for the movie, as well as be a consultant for the production (for those who don’t know, American was a level designer and part of the programming staff for such games as Doom, Doom II, Quake, and Quake II, and later went off to Electronic Arts to create his own twisted version of Alice In Wonderland called American McGee’s Alice). Lastly, the guys also stated that more art from the film was coming soon, so we’ll be getting something better than the temp poster and magazine scans like the photo above. Thanks for clearing that up for us, guys. No hard feelings, eh?
