To go along with the earlier comic news, Hollywood Reporter stated today that Mandate Pictures has picked up the film rights to the children’s comic book series THE GHOULY BOYS, with Benderspink attached to produce. The comics follow four young monsters: A wolf boy, a kid zombie, a young merman and the son of the boogeyman, plus their aerially-challenged pet bat. The four have a hard time fitting in with the “normal” kids until they find each other.
The comic, which is written and drawn by the artist known only as Christopher, was first published in 2004 by Slave Labor Graphics (am I the only one who sees the irony in a company like that making a children’s comic?). “We were immediately taken with the emotional foundation of THE GHOULY BOYS comic series,” says Mandate Pictures president Nathan Kahane. “Christopher creatively captures the self-doubt, social rejection and alienation felt by today’s youth with great ease and innocence.”
