Late last night, Dark Horizons posted an interview they had in the flatlands of Saskatchewan (that’s a Canadian joke if you ever read one) with Mark Wheaton, a former journalist for DH, now screenwriter for the brothers Pang’s horror project now titled THE MESSENGERS.
In the interview, Wheaton chats it up with how he was lucky to not only get his first screenplay put into production in his first year as a screenwriter, but also to have it pitched to Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert! Elsewhere, Wheaton also talks about how the proverbial shoe is now on the other foot in terms of journalists reviewing his work (rather than vice versa), his love of the genre, the situation with the remake of George Orwell’s 1984 (“deader than dogsh*t”), and his future projects with Ghost House and other production companies.
The story for the project, which has been filming in Saskatchewan’s capital city, Regina, and Indian Head, takes place in North Dakota, where an ominous darkness has invaded a seemingly serene sunflower farm. The resident Solomon family is torn apart by suspicion, mayhem and murder. The release date is set for next year, August 18th (and yes, Regina rhymes with, well, you know).
