BD sent us news of the first stills from Sony’s remake of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS. The film stars Camilla Belle, Katie Cassidy, Brian Geraghty, John Bobek, Molly Bryant, Madeline Carroll, David Denman, Kate Jennings Grant, Derek de Lint, Brad Surosky, Tessa Thompson, Kevin Wethington and Arthur Young. The film was first previewed by MTV with a behind-the-scenes thing a while back, and it sounded like an MTV movie (ie. teenager stereotypes who do stupid things). Oh well, hopefully it’ll turn out for the better.
Directed by Simon West (who did CON AIR and TOMB RAIDER) and written by Jake Wade Wall (who’s signed on to do the screenplays for the next HALLOWEEN disaster and the remake of THE HITCHER), the film is a remake of the 1979 classic where a high-school student is traumatized while babysitting by a caller who repeatedly asks, “Have you checked the children lately?”. After notifying the police, she is told that the calls are coming from inside the house. The film calls theatres February 3rd.
