After what seemed like Eli Roth’s HOSTEL was going to be released in the ‘dead period’ for Hollywood (January), we have news that the film, which will be handled by both Lion’s Gate Films and Screen Gem, is set for release December 21. In a shared-pot deal, Screen Gems will keep domestic home video and international theatrical distribution rights to the film, while Lion’s Gate will handle North American theatrical and television distribution. The companies will share all revenue on the picture. Quentin Tarantino, Scott Spiegel and Boaz Yakin are executive producers on the film, while Mike Fleiss and Chris Briggs are producers of the project.
The film centers on three American backpackers (one fo them being Jay Hernandez) in a Slovakian city who stumble upon a mob-run torture ring involving human trafficking and sex tourism. Sounds like fun to me! And to think I didn’t know what I wanted for Christmas…
