The always reliable DVDAnswers confirmed the final specs for Peter Jackson’s criminally underrated film, THE FRIGHTENERS, which starred Michael J. Fox and ‘Dr. West’ himself, Jeffrey Combs.
The single-disc DVD will haunt shelves November 29th, at around $26.98. Here’s the dirt:
- a runtime of 2 hours and 3 minutes
- presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen
- English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track
- commentary with director Peter Jackson
- ‘Making of The Frighteners’ documentary (over 4 hours long!!)

Unfortunately, the disk appears to be one of the dreaded flipper discs, which hardcore DVD fans despise with a passion. Oh well, at least we get the kickass documentary that was released on the old laserdisc SE of the film, which rivals the masterpiece doc done for JAWS (if you got the 30th Anniversary Edition of JAWS on DVD or the old laserdisc, you’ll know what I’m talking about).
