According to The Hollywood Reporter we’re going to see some literary horror hit the big screen soon. Universal has snatched up THE TURNING, a pitch from brothers Chad and Carey Hayes for a contemporary version of Henry James’ THE TURN OF THE SCREW.
The story concerns a caretaker hired to look after two orphaned children at their family’s isolated estate. Upon the caretaker’s arrival, the young woman finds that the children are not quite what they seem, and that she might be losing them to malevolent spirits with a secret tie to their past.
It’s quite a mindf*ck of a tale, and without giving too much away, it’s got some plot and perspective complications that THE OTHERS borrowed in its own unique way. This one definitely has the chance to become a new horror classic if they pull it all off.
