When we first reported that was getting behind remake of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS it was handled with perhaps a little sarcasm in regards to the need for such a move. Well it’s time to give the frog boys a break because apparently the studio views the script for this as an original project.
Here’s what had to say about the premise:
Sounds almost like a sequel to me, which I think could be pretty cool since the movie’s conceit is inherently interesting. Knowing that director Oliver Hirschbiegel (DOWNFALL) will get a chance to exercise his dark and cynical aesthetic also gives me warm fuzzies. Just listen to the man:
“This premise is a metaphor for historical events and even a metaphor for what is happening in this country right now. This was exactly the kind of studio movie I wanted to do. I’m a specialist in human drama and three-dimensional characters, and I want to emphasize that over big special effects and CGI.”
OK, so INVASION has now officially climbed onto my list. You know you’ll get more when I have it.
