A fresh spin on the 1980’s teen horror genre? Is that even possbile? Apparently special effects/production co. The Orphanage thinks so, because that’s how they’re pitching Irving Belateche’s untitled teen horror pitch. And clearly Fortress Entertainment bought it, because well, they bought it.
While no specifics on the closely guarded plot details were forthcoming, Orphanage‘s head of production Amy Israel had this to say about the project, “Irving came up with a wickedly scary and fun story. We’re delighted to be working with Fortress to bring it to the screen. They were really aggressive in snapping up the pitch and taking it off the market.”
None of that strikes me as particularly interesting at this point. What does strike me as interesting is that The Orphanage will handle the visual effects for the film. Just like they have on a couple of smaller films like SIN CITY, SUPERMAN RETURNS, and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.
I’m very curious about why an effects power house like that would be necessary for a teen horror flick. Either we’re looking at a supernatural set up, or one wicked freaking new monster. I’ll definitely look forward to discovering more and sharing it with ya’ll.
Oh, and speaking of impressive displays of special effects…
