I guess the next generation of Asian horror remakes is upon us. Forget trying to keep the flair of the original. Let’s move on to taking the concept and making it wholly American. That’s the goal of Davis Films who have picked up the rights to BUNSHINSABA: OUIJA BOARD. They will retitle it SPELL.
President Samuel Hadida had this to say: “This is not about giving a Korean director first shot at an English-language movie. We see this as having franchise potential, a bit like “Buffy” set in a high school and to cast an attractive group of new 18- to 22-year-old actors.”
Um, OK. So what is this set to be WB-ish tale about? It concerns a schoolgirl with the ability to make her classmates commit suicide. Nifty talent, eh? Kind of CARRIE meets SCANNERS.
At the very least I’m sure the casting will allow us to post some pretty pictures, so stay tuned. You can check out the trailer for the original here.
