Wax Melts Down

HOUSE OF WAX
opened this weekend with a 2nd place finish bringing in a box office total of $12.2 million. Through good word of mouth to help the theatrical run, and strong DVD traffic, the pic will have no problem showing profitability even with it’s relatively high for a genre flick $30 million budget.

But how freaking cool would it have been if this bad boy had taken down the $150 million supposed juggernaut that is KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.

Now all of us genre fans have some work to do though. All the studios are going to look at is that HOUSE OF WAX is a horror flick for genre fans with a well-deserved R-rating, and it didn’t open at #1. This does not bode well if the flick doesn’t show strong business in the coming weeks, because then they’re very likely to continue thinking PG-13 is the way to go.

So if you didn’t see it this weekend, go see it next. If your friends didn’t see it, tell them to. This isn’t for HOUSE OF WAX and this isn’t for Dark Castle. This is for the good of the genre. Besides, have you heard about the pole death? I mean, c’mon, you cannot miss that!
