Does Not Compute

Bollywood. Horror films. Not really two things that seem to fit easily together, eh? Unless you’re looking forward to a colorful chorus line of dancing/singing ghosts. And while that would be scary, it wouldn’t be scary in the right way.

Nevertheless, with the success of Indian horror flicks such as BHOOT, the Bollywood bosses are getting into genre Hollywood style. That’s right, remakes of asian horror! May will bring the release of NAINA, which is based on The Pang Bros. JIAN GUI (THE EYE).

Now I’ve got a couple of thoughts on this. Number 1 is that the trailer kicks ass, so you should check that out here. Number 2 is that if Tom Cruise still plans to remake the flick as well, this is a whole new load of pressure. I mean, screwing up the Asian original is almost a given with remakes these days, but it sure would be embarrasing to fall short of a Bollywood remake.

My final thought is that it’s nice to be introduced to lead actress Urmila Matondkar because I’m tired of Aishwarya Rai being the only Indian actress we ever hear about. I mean, I get it, she’s hot, but the most beautiful woman in the world? Please. That would be the lovely lady below.
