SUSPIRIA, INFERNO and…well, we don’t know the name of the third yet. There’s no question that the last film in the as yet unfinished THREE MOTHERS trilogy is pretty much the holy grail for Dario Argento fans. And to be honest, as amazing as his body of work is, the coy dance Argento has maintained with this one project has felt over the last 20 years kinda like a stripper in the Champagne Room when the question of a bj comes up – unwilling to commit. And the long build up has led to a kind of desperate madness amongst his faithful. If you think I don’t really mean desperate, then you’re just not an Argento fan.
However, Dark Dreams has posted some info from the man himself, and once again I find myself hoping, wishing, praying that it is true. Please, please let it be true:
He talked about the last chapter of the “Three Mothers” trilogy. He said he hopes to film it after finishing the Masters of Horror film, if things go right. He said it was quite a heavy task, since he left that series more than 20 years ago, but it’s something everyone wants to see and it’s something he wants to do (properly) and he said he hopes not to disappoint his fans, he hopes to make his fans proud. When I asked him if he will keep the film visually similar to Suspiria and Inferno he said a lot of things changed since then (cgi effects, etc…), but he hopes to keep a visual style similar to the previous two.
So not exactly nailing down a start date, but awfully good news for the seething hordes. I mean, nobody wants the third film be be done half-ass, but the longer you wait the greater the anticipation becomes, adding more and more pressure. 20 years is long enough. Let’s get some release!
