Variety reported today that Nicolas Cage will be starring in the remake of the classic horror/bizarre flick THE WICKER MAN after he finishes playing comic hero GHOST RIDER.
Set to be directed by Neil LaBute, shooting for the remake begins this July in Vancouver. This time around the story takes place in the U.S. where a sheriff investigates the disappearance of a young girl on an island off the coast of Maine. As he investigates, he uncovers the evidence of pagan rituals. And lots of other weird shite.
This is a contrary to what Christopher Lee said in December (see article HERE) who said it was going to be more of a follow up to THE WICKER MAN (and definitely not a sequel). Well, scratch that, it’s not a follow up or a sequel, but another goddamn remake! Maybe Cage will bring something to this flick that makes it somewhat redeemable. And there best be nudity in this one- lots and lots of nudity!
Ah well, maybe remaking WICKER will clear up the bizarreness of the original. Or even better- be even more bizarre than the original. We seem to be missing that lately in mainstream cinema, and if a remake is the one to deliver it- then bring it on!
