Now I’ve seen it all. A high school kid attending George Rogers Clark
High School was arrested this week because his short stories
about zombies where found by his grandparents… and taken as threats of
terrorism!
No, I am not shitting you. He talked to his local news station
Lex18 in defense of himself saying “My story is based
on fiction. It’s a fake story. I made it up. I’ve been working on one
of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies.
Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by
zombies. It didn’t mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn’t
mention (George Rogers Clark High School), didn’t mention no principal or
cops, nothing. Half the people at high school know me. They know I’m not
that stupid, that crazy.”
And what did the police of Kentucky have to say about that? “Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a
school or function it’s a felony in the state of Kentucky.”
It would seem to me by now the police would realize the
misunderstandings of a zombie story and drop all the charges. Or that the judge
would hear the case and throw it out for it’s ridiculousness. Nope. In
fact, just the opposite: the judge raised his bail from $1,000
to $5,000!
So nothing’s sacred in this post-9/11 era, even horror short stories
involving zombies will get the label of ‘Terrorist’ slapped across
your forehead. Look out Romero! You could be the next Osama if you keep
making zombie movies! My advice to everyone: stay as far away from
Kentucky if you have ever read, heard, watched or made anything that has to do
with zombies. You don’t want to be arrested and be a bitch to some guy
named Bubba in a Kentucky jail… trust me…you really don’t wanna go there.
