The good people over at The Film Asylum have posted a great interview with Alexandre Aja (HAUTE TENSION) in anticipation of it’s UK DVD release. But the thing that caught my eye is that Aja’s next project, currently being developed with Wes Craven himself, is a remake of THE HILLS HAVE EYES.
Now I have a rocky relationship with remakes. Usually I think they’re a waste of time at best, and occasionally actually sour the original. But there are times when a remake sounds like a damn good idea, and this is one of those times!
The original HILLS was Craven’s second directing effort, and while his skills led to some seriously surprising turns in the flick, it was still largely dragged down by a pedestrian script and less than stellar performances. Yet the idea is so cool. Family in RV gets stranded and has to battle cannibals. I mean, c’mon! How great is that?
Plus how can you not like this comment from Aja: I think The Hills Have Eyes will be great; it will be nasty, savage and very scary. For the film, I think we can just improve on what we tried in (Haute Tension). (T)he new version is much more than a simple remake; it’s a very good survival film.”
Me likey, me likey! I’m going to keep a keen eye out for this one.
