Ever wonder what you would get with the combination of Warwick Davis, desert psychopaths, ’70s and ’80s style horror/comedy, and the effects wizard of FRANKENHOOKER? Well, if not, then prepare for SKINNED DEEP, written and directed by FX genius Gave Bartalos, in his directorial debut!
The film, pitting an all American family against a pack of desert pycho’s, is full of scary villians, like a steel-toothed killer named Surgeon General, and an unassuming Granny with deadly intentions. The film also stars Karoline Brandt, Linda Weinrib, Eric Bennett, Peter Iasillo, and horror magazine legend Forrest J. Ackerman.
Picked up by Fangoria‘s GoreZone video label, this flick is picking up a lot of hype and good reviews. Steven Mackler, the acquisitions chief for Fangoria, says that
“SKINNED DEEP is really ‘out there…This movie has everything: good ‘creatures,’ wild special effects, shocking violence and a unique point of view. Our audience will enjoy this freaky movie because they won’t believe their eyes.”
And even Variety has been quoted in saying that SKINNED DEEP is “an impressively berserk horror-comedy- the stuff cult followings are made of.”
Wow. That’s saying a lot. Just the simple fact that the Lebrechaun is in it would motivate me to rent this flick, but all this hype has really sparked my curiosity. It’s been a while since we’ve had a really good ‘cult’ movie come out that is actually good, but I must say this one sounds exceptionally promising. Video distributor Hart Sharp is looking to release SKINNED DEEP early next year, so keep your eyes out for the next ‘big thing’ in cult horror.
