With the announcement yesterday of the remake of THE FOG, Paramount thought ‘What the hell, we might as well remake something too!’- but what? A remake of an original that’s already been remade! THE BLOB was announced today by producer Scott Rudin (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) to be the latest horror classic being remade. Wow. The original 1958 monster movie launched badass Steve McQueen’s career, and had ground breaking effects for the it’s time. Chuck Russell’s 1988 remake written by Frank Darabont and starring Kevin Dillon was damn good, and stands alone as a well done monster/alien invasion/horror flick. What else can be done here? Rudin said this one will be contemporized…. Ok. Whatever the hell that means…
This, along with THE FOG, just goes to show that Hollywood is the looking for the quick and easy, and it’s losing momentum fast. What I want to know is: What’s the flippin’ point of remaking a remake!? It’d be like some smartass remaking THE FLY, or better yet, GODZILLA! Although I’m pissed about the remake of THE FOG (click HERE for article), at least their remaking a film that has yet to beremade! The next BLOB currently has no director, or writer attached to it yet, but it’s only a matter of time…
