California’s Film & TV tax credit program has announced 23 new movies set to film in the state, including Beverly Hills Cop 4, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, Luca Guadagnino’s Scarface reboot, and more. The films include 13 independent projects and 10 major studio productions, with $138.7 million in tax credits being allocated in amounts ranging from $262,000 to $18.5 million.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 falls under a one-time licensing deal between Netflix and Paramount to produce the reboot, starring Eddie Murphy. Filming is set to commence over the course of 58 days, with a portion of the shoot taking place in San Bernadino.
“We look forward to welcoming this diverse blend of films and filmmakers to the tax credit program,” California Film Commission executive director Colleen Bell said in a statement.
Other major film endeavors that have been approved for the tax credit include Jean-Marc Vallée’s untitled John Lennon and Yoko Ono feature, Escape from Imagine Entertainment, and untitled projects from Aziz Ansari, Karyn Kusama, and Kobi Libii, and Kenya Barris. Meanwhile, nine of the 13 indie projects will have a budget of $10 million or less.
By giving these projects the green light, it’s been estimated that a total of 4,088 crew members, 873 cast, and 40,621 background actors and stand-ins will be hired. A total of 953 days worth of filming is expected to take place, barring any reshoots, of course.
