Disney is preparing to set sail on another adventure with the stars of Disney’s Jungle Cruise for Jungle Cruise 2 (via THR).
The sequel, which is currently in development, will see Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt reprising their roles as skipper Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively. Another confirmed member of the team is Michael Green, who co-wrote the first film. Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra is also expected to return. Meanwhile, John Davis, John Fox, Beau Flynn, Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia will produce, with Scott Sheldon executive producing.
Jungle Cruise recently sailed beyond the $100 million at the domestic box office, prompting Disney to greenlight a sequel. You all know how much the mouse loves his money. With returns like that, especially during a pandemic, it’s no wonder we’re getting another one.
Did you know that Jungle Cruise has been in development for more than 15 years before finally setting sail on movie screens? It’s true, though I can’t imagine the movie being as effects-heavy if it had come out all those years ago. As it is, Jungle Cruise is an exercise in green screen magic. Seriously, so much of the original film looks like it was filmed under strict Covid safety measures, but damn, it’s a rollicking good time.
