Movie fans are getting two very different films called Runner this September, and Amazon MGM’s The Runner has now unveiled its trailer. While the recently promoted Alan Ritchson film shares the same title, this version stars Gal Gadot in a tense psychological thriller built around a desperate mother forced into a deadly race across London. You can watch the trailer in the embed above.

Directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September) from a screenplay by Mark Gibson (The Wild, Snow Dogs), The Runner stars Gal Gadot, Damian Lewis, Rory Wilmot, and Alfred Enoch. The film is set to be released on September 2nd.

Rather than focusing on survival action like the other Runner, this film unfolds as a high-pressure psychological thriller set against the streets of London. Gadot plays a successful lawyer whose ordinary morning run suddenly becomes a fight to save her son’s life.

Amazon MGM’s The Runner centers on Maia Marten, whose routine run turns into a nightmare after she receives a phone call informing her that her son has been kidnapped. Ordered to keep moving while following a series of cryptic commands, Maia has only one objective: stay alive long enough to get her child back.

Official synopsis

In the pulse-pounding psychological thriller The Runner, Maia Marten (Gal Gadot) has built her life on being one step ahead — a sharp, resourceful, high-powered lawyer at the top of London’s legal world.

During her routine morning run, a single phone call shatters her world: her son has been taken. The instructions to get him back are simple and merciless — keep moving, follow every command, and tell no one. Stop, and he dies. Forced to sprint through the city and obey a series of sinister commands, Maia must confront an impossible question: how far will she go to bring her son home?

Set against the backdrop of London’s hyper-connected streets, The Runner is a visceral, high-stakes race where every second counts, every choice carries a price, and a mother’s unstoppable love becomes the most dangerous weapon of all.
