Scream 2022’s Jenna Ortega, who reprises the role of Tara Carpenter in the upcoming Scream 6 – which is set to reach theatres on March 10, 2023recently gave an interview in which she said that the film is going to be “so action-heavy and so gore-heavy” that viewers will be distracted from the absence of Neve Campbell, who opted not to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott in this one due to a pay dispute. Now Ortega’s Scream 2022 and Scream 6 co-star Melissa Barrera, who plays Tara’s sister Samantha, has confirmed to Collider that the new sequel is going to be much gorier than the previous one. Maybe even 100 times gorier.

Barrera said, “There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] were always asking for more blood and more sweat. They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more. With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, “We’re going all out.” It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.

So it sounds like Ghostface is going to be spilling a whole lot of blood and guts in this one. Which is fine by me.

Set in New York City, Scream 6 was actually filmed in Montreal. Directed by Scream 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, this one will show us what happens when

the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

Those four survivors are the Scream 2022 characters played by returning stars Barrera, Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown (as Mindy Meeks-Martin), and Mason Gooding (as Mindy’s brother Chad Meeks-Martin). Courteney Cox is reprising the role of Gale Weathers. Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Dermot Mulroney, and Henry Czerny have also been cast in unspecified roles. And Scream 4‘s Hayden Panettiere is back as Kirby Reed. According to YouTuber Critical Overlord, it looks like Thomas Cadrot might be in the cast as well.

Vanderbilt is producing Scream 6 with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak for Project X Entertainment. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Willamson serves as executive producer alongside Chad Villella, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, and Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

Are you glad to hear that Scream 6 is going to be a gorier entry in the franchise? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
