Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard. Consider yourself warned. The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard recently wrapped up and, in my opinion, was an absolutely wonderful finale for the beloved characters of The Next Generation. It also set the stage for another new show, which Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has dubbed Star Trek: Legacy.
The epilogue of the final episode of Star Trek: Picard found Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) as the new captain of the U.S.S. Titan, which has been rechristened as the U.S.S. Enterprise G. With Raffi (Michelle Hurd) as her first officer and Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) as the captain’s special counselor, the stage is set for a brand new set of adventures. However, as excited as fans seem to be about the possibility of Star Trek: Legacy, Terry Matalas told TVLine that nothing is in development.
It does feel like something new, with Captain Seven and her crew. It feels like a new mix. I don’t know how much everyone would be involved, but it definitely feels like a mix and match of old legacy and new. But again, there’s nothing in development, currently. It’s just a pie-in-the-sky sort of fan wish at the moment.

If Star Trek: Legacy does eventually take shape, Matalas said that everyone is game to return. “Definitely. Everybody wants to come back,” Matalas said. “Even Patrick said he’d love to come check in on his son, and I think he used the phrase, “provide some comedy.” And that’s unique. You don’t often get that, where everybody wants to come back.” These shows aren’t exactly cheap to produce, and Paramount already has several new projects in the works. There’s the Starfleet Academy series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as well as the Section 31 movie starring Michelle Yeoh. Matalas told SFX Magazine that the studio “would have to financially justify a third one. I think the way they look at it is that they’re well-stocked. So unless fans can convince them otherwise, that’s certainly the point of view at the moment.” As fans helped to launch Strange New Worlds after Pike (Anson Mount) and company guest-starred on Star Trek: Discovery, I wouldn’t bet against Legacy following a similar path.
Terry Matalas also teased to Variety that he’s been talking about the potential new series with Star Trek franchise producer Alex Kurtzman. “Alex and I talk all the time. If it’s something that’s going to be done, we want to make sure we don’t rush into it,” Matalas said. “We want to make sure we do it right. That’s where we’re at with it, I say coyly. At the moment, there’s nothing developed on it. But we talk all the time.” For his part, Kurtzman told Fox LA, “Anything is possible. We’ve heard the fans loud and clear. There’s obviously more story to tell. So, we’ll see.“
