We already knew Black Panther 3 was coming, but Marvel Studios made it official at Comic-Con by announcing that the sequel will be released on December 15, 2028. Not only that, but David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus) will star as T’Challa. No, the role hasn’t been recast. This will be the now-grown son of Chadwick Bosman’s T’Challa. Fans will recall that the boy was revealed at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Although his given name is Toussaint, he took T’Challa as his Wakandan name.

T’Challa was… well, quite young at the end of Wakanda Forever, so he will obviously be aged up for Black Panther 3. Writer/director Ryan Coogler acknowledged this, saying, “In this next film, he grows up, comes of age, and we had to find an incredible actor.“
“I want to say thank you so much,” Jonsson told the crowd. “Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege of blessing to join. I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let this screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine. Thank you.“
Jonsson has been on quite the rise lately. In addition to Alien: Romulus, he also starred Cooper Hoffman in Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Steven King’s The Long Walk. He was also part of the main cast for the first two seasons of Industry.
It was announced that Black Panther 3 will be shot in 70mm, so expect something particularly cinematic. We’ve known that Denzel Washington would have a role in the sequel for over a year, as Coogler has wanted to work with the actor since day one and considers him the “greatest living actor.” Unfortunately, no word on who he might be playing.
Shuri (Letitia Wright) took on the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever and resumes the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. With Prince T’Challa on the scene, will he take over from his aunt? Will there be two Black Panthers?
