Spider-Noir has spun his last web as Prime Video has cancelled the series after just one season. Although the series was a hit with critics and fans, viewership wasn’t as impressive as it should have been, especially given how expensive it was to produce.
What Killed Spider-Noir?
Spider-Noir had a successful launch, with over 851 million minutes viewed in its first week in the U.S. and a total of 2.6 billion minutes viewed over its first six weeks. However, it fell off the streaming service’s top 10 rankings sooner than expected.
The series was the first successful collaboration of a multi-title deal between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television for projects based on Sony’s stable of Marvel characters. The other was Silk, another Spider-Man spinoff, but it was shelved.
Despite the cancellation of Spider-Noir, the partnership between Amazon and Sony will continue. In fact, there are multiple projects in the works and Deadline’s report states that one of them is actually nearing a series order. So we should hear more about that soon.
What We Thought
Cage stars in Spider-Noir as Ben Reilly, an “aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” Cage first voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The rest of the cast includes Lamorne Morris as Joe “Robbie” Robertson, Karen Rodriguez as Janet Ruiz, Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane, Jack Huston as Sandman, Abraham Popoola as Tombstone, and more.
The first season largely wrapped up the story, but it was hoped the show would return for more.

Who would have thought this would end up being one of the best Spider-Man projects ever? I hope we get more seasons that continue to expand on this specific slice of the multiverse.” Oops. I guess not.
