Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and now we’ve had the chance to watch him play the character in live-action in the Prime Video series Spider-Noir. The show was developed by Oren Uziel, who served as showrunner alongside Steve Lightfoot – and JoBlo’s own Ryan Cultrera recently sat down for an interview with Uziel! You can check it out in the embed above.
What is Spider-Noir about?
Spider-Noir has Cage taking on the role of an aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero. The show consists of eight episodes.
Cage’s character is Ben Reilly: A retired superhero with the powers of Spider-Man who is too old and broken, both figuratively and literally, to suit up the way he used to. Instead, he takes low-level PI cases and stays out of the ones that involve high-profile names, like that of the Mayor. Through flashbacks, we find out about his past heroics, and past failures, that led him to this point. He is charming, but weathered, and the pilot does an excellent job of setting him up for a good character arc moving forward.
Also in the cast are Lamorne Morris as Joe “Robbie” Robertson, Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, Karen Rodriguez as Janet Ruiz, Abraham Popoola as Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone, Jack Huston as Flint Marko / Sandman, and Brendan Gleeson as Finbar “Finn” Byrne / Silvermane.
Recurring cast members include Amanda Schull as Ruby J. Williams, Lukas Haas as Winston, Cary Christopher as Frankie, Michael Kostroff as Alfred Morris, Scott MacArthur as Perry, Joe Massingill as Pudge, Richard Robichaux as Howard Walters, Andrew Lewis Caldwell as Dirk Leyden / Megawatt, Amy Aquino as Dr. Alethea Fabe, Andrew Robinson as Ogden Faber, Kai Caster as a young Ogden, Jack Mikesell as James “Jimmy” Addison, Cameron Britton as Patrick Donegal, and Whitney Rice as Vera Addison.
JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy gave Spider-Noir an 8/10 review that can be read at THIS LINK.
