The Asylum has made a name for itself by cranking out low-budget movies that capitalize on the titles and concepts of much bigger Hollywood releases. Now, the company is taking aim at Street Fighter with Street Fighters, and JoBlo is proud to share an EXCLUSIVE first look at the trailer for the new mockbuster.
Street Fighters is scheduled to be released on October 2, just two weeks before the new Street Fighter movie arrives in theaters on October 16. The Asylum has been making movies like this for years, with recent examples including Alien Disclosure Day, Jurassic Rampage, and Shark Thrash.

What is Street Fighters about?
Directed by Brian Nowak from a screenplay by Jacob Cooney and Jason White, Street Fighters has the following official synopsis:
The world’s best martial artists fight in a world championship put on by a mysterious organization. As alliances forge and enemies emerge, they realize it’s not only the grand prize on the line, but their lives.
That’s about as much as we need to know before the fight begins.
Who stars in Street Fighters?
The cast includes Yomade Adefeso, Diamond Marie Buckley, and Adam Michaels.
David Michael Latt, Paul Bales, and David Rimawi are among the producers behind the film.
Nowak has directed several other Asylum productions, including Megalodon Rising and Jurassic Domination, so Street Fighters puts the filmmaker back in familiar territory.
Street Fighters arrives before Street Fighter
The timing here is, of course, the whole point. The Asylum’s Street Fighters is arriving on October 2, while Legendary and Paramount’s big-budget Street Fighter movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16. The latter is directed by Kitao Sakurai and stars Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and Jason Momoa as Blanka.
The new Street Fighter movie is based on Capcom’s hugely popular fighting game franchise and brings characters including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, M. Bison, Blanka, Vega, Balrog, Akuma, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Cammy, and Guile to the big screen.
Street Fighters, meanwhile, is doing what The Asylum does best: getting its own version into the marketplace just ahead of the much bigger movie. The company’s mockbusters have taken aim at everything from Top Gun and Jurassic World to Masters of the Universe and The Odyssey, with titles such as Top Gunner, Triassic World, Master of the Universe, and The Odyssey joining the ever-growing Asylum library.
Earlier this year, we also got a fascinating look at how that operation works in the documentary Mockbuster, which follows filmmaker Anthony Frith as he attempts to direct an ambitious Asylum production in just six days. If you haven’t seen Mockbuster, it’s worth checking out. The documentary offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at The Asylum’s filmmaking process and the extreme time and budget limitations that come with making one of these movies.
For fans of low budget genre movies, mockbusters, or The Asylum’s brand of cinematic chaos, there’s now another one to add to the list. Check out the EXCLUSIVE Street Fighters trailer above, and let us know what you think in the comments.
