Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
It’s the (other) 80s time-traveling classic! The movie that taught us to be excellent to each other and, above all else, party on, dude! Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is the film that launched Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter’s careers as the delightfully simple, but always positive Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan. The 1989 movie saw to underachieving teenagers needing to pass their history test and they get some help from a time-traveller from the future. The movie spawned two sequels, a cartoon, a short-lived live-action show, toys and, of course, a Nintendo game.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure Arcade
Now, the movie is getting another game, courtesy of Art of Play Interactive and Roditeli Productions. An announcement trailer has just been released that shows you a new retro 16-bit game based on the Bill & Ted film, complete with stages inspired by scenes from the movie, which include the wild west, medieval England and even a Ziggy Piggy bonus stage.
The official description on Steam reads,
“Join Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan in this most excellent action-adventure 16-bit arcade game! Bag and challenge famous figures from history in preparation for your report, oh and save the world while you’re at it!
Play as Bill or Ted, or team up for some couch co-op multiplayer in this 15-level side-scrolling arcade action game. You’ll get the chance to meet all of the characters from the original movie as you battle through time to save the future. Find Billy the Kid, Socrates, Napoleon, Beethoven and Ghengis Khan and go head-to-head with them in unique mini-games in order to win them over to help you on your quest.
High-octane action, lovingly hand-crafted pixel art, and a killer 80s rock soundtrack bring your favourite time-travelling heroes to the arcade… Take on story mode, to unlock arcade mode, mini games and more.”
The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam), with a crowdfunding campaign launching on BackerKit in February 2027. You can check the Steam Store Page to wishlist the game or view updates on the BackerKit Pre-Launch Page.
A release date is yet to be announced pending the February 2027 crowdfunding campaign.
