ASH VS. EVIL DEAD was a show, based on the Sam Raimi EVIL DEAD series, that lasted for three seasons on STARZ, despite generally favorable reviews. Afterward, star Bruce Campbell – who played the eponymous Ash Williams – said he's retired the character forever.
However, with the show moving to syndication on streaming, many fans have discovered it and want it back. And with many shows getting second lives on streaming (such as fan-favorite THE EXPANSE), now seems the ripe time to try to give the show a proper ressurection!
Here's what Campbell's co-star Ray Santiago (who played Ash's sidekick Pablo on the show) had to say in an interview with Chuck Loads of Comics on YouTube (which you can see in the embed at the top of the article):
We could have had a bigger audience were we on a platform like Hulu or Amazon or Netflix, but because we were on this cable subscription, it really limited the audience…I was really looking forward to seeing where things were gonna go with the show, just because we had set up so many relationships. It was just all there to play with.
I think enough time has passed by. He just needs a good couple of – one or two years of just like chilling in the woods and not having the Boomstick in his hands, and then he starts to crave it, and it'll come back.
Another co-star, Dana DeLorenzo, who played the badass Kelly Maxwell, agreed:
Well, I say, 'Never say never…Because the way things are going, I've been reading all these very terrifying things about our industry and just productions and things are being shelved and whatnot, so I honestly feel like never say never. There have been shows where they get cancelled but then they're picked up by another network.
I know Bruce has said he is in retirement, but I feel like Ray and I could convince him
Well, let's hope! I loved that show, and felt it was a great continuation of the series (even if there's consensus it was a different timeline, technically). Either way, more Bruce as Ash is good to me!
