“Cosmic opera” Blood Machines coming to Shudder

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I love me some psychological horror in space – whether it's the trippy SOLARIS, the somewhat goofy but still effective EVENT HORIZON, or even the pretty awful but fun GALAXY OF TERROR. Pump that sh*t into my veins! So I'm the perfect mark for something like BLOOD MACHINES, a sci-fi fantasy film about

two space hunters tracking down a machine trying to free itself. After taking it down, they witness a mystical phenomenon: the ghost of a young woman pulls itself out of the carcass, as if the spaceship had a soul. Trying to understand its nature, they start chasing the woman through space…

The trailer for BLOOD MACHINES showcases some great visuals, atmosphere, and music. It's especially impressive, as it was made for only $350,000, made through multiple Kickstarter campaigns (though that seems to have been a record for French film fundraising). And after three years, 500 VFX shots, and 7 visual effects houses later, this is the result. Looks pretty awesome to me!

BLOOD MACHINES will be coming to Shudder May 21st.

So what do you guys think? Any other fans of trippy sci-fi horror? If so, what're your favorites? Either way, sound off below!
