A Gift from Robocop, With Love

JoBloJoBlo

On Thanksgiving there were many things to be thankful for. I was thankful for the fact that I didn’t puke from eating so much damn food. Mashed potatoes are so awesome.

I’m also thankful when really cool things happen to really cool people, well in this case really cool little people. For Halloween this year, a little boy dressed up in a ROBOCOP costume that his dad made for him. The kid then ran around Detroit in his costume and his dad took pictures. Later the internet got a hold of this awesome event and it spread like wildfire.

Someone else browsing the internet saw the little ROBOCOP as well– Peter Weller. Sometime last week a surprise came in the mail for little ROBOCOP. It was a signed photo of Weller as ROBOCOP with this written across the chest, “Gram- You are certainly the best ROBOCOP of all time!”

I’m thankful for really cool actors that take the time to make a kid’s dreams come true. Gram will remember this for the rest of his life. Here’s what his Dad wrote on his blog about receiving the photo:

“Seriously, how cool is Peter Weller? After seeing the photos of my son in the Robocop costume, he took time away from his acting (eight episodes of Dexter) and UCLA teaching schedule (as well his dissertation for the PhD he’s earning in Roman and Italian Renaissance art) to send an autographed photo to my son. Signed ROBO!”

“When you’ve played a character as iconic as Robocop, you must grow somewhat weary of him after a couple decades. That makes it especially generous that Professor Weller did this for my son. Gram believes the real Robocop sent this to him, because that’s exactly what we told him. It’s already framed and on his bedroom wall.”

“My daughter was insanely jealous. In fact, I’ve never seen her so jealous. “I’m sure Mr. Clooney just figured Wes Anderson would send you an autographed picture of the fox, kiddo,” I told her. Eventually she got over it, and had to agree that getting mail from Robocop was about the coolest thing ever.”
