Toho's Godzilla is back. The iconic monster is rampaging across screens in Japan right now in his latest film, GODZILLA: RESURGENCE (pictured above), and there are already plans in place to bring him back for another round. This time, however, we're going to be getting a different kind of Godzilla film than we've ever gotten before.
Toho, Godzilla's home studio ever since he made his debut back in 1954, is teaming with Polygon Pictures for a GODZILLA anime. There are no story details currently available, but we do know that the film has been written by Gen Urobuchi and is being directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita.
Shizuno had this to say about the project:
We’re aiming to make a big-scale animation entertainment that people who love Godzilla and people who know nothing about him can both enjoy."
Simply titled GODZILLA (for the moment, at least), the anime is scheduled to reach theatres in 2017.
While I don't typically watch anime, I do watch everything Godzilla related, so this particular anime just earned a spot on my "must see" list.
