Three months ago, popular genre distributor A24 picked up the North American rights to writer-director Rose Glass's psychological / religious horror film SAINT MAUD. Now A24 has started up the marketing machine for the film's Spring 2020 release, putting a trailer online along with a very simple poster that informs us "Your Savior Is Coming".
SAINT MAUD is said to be "a chilling and boldly original vision of faith, madness, and salvation in a fallen world." The story centers on
Maud, a newly devout hospice nurse, becomes obsessed with saving her dying patient’s soul — but sinister forces, and her own sinful past, threaten to put an end to her holy calling.
Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle star. The cast also includes Lilly Frazer, Lily Knight, Marcus Hutton, Turlough Convery, and Rosie Sansom.
Judging by the trailer embedded above, SAINT MAUD looks like it's going to be quite dark and strange. In other words, it's a perfect match for A24, as it seems to be aimed directly at moviegoers who'll be hyped to see that there's another horror film coming "From the studio that brought you THE WITCH, HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR".
