According to Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible 6 is already in the works

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

This Friday will see the release of the fifth installment of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE series and with plenty of positive reviews flooding in, including one from our own Chris Bumbray, it's only natural that work has already begun on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6; Tom Cruise said as much during an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart:

We’re starting to work on it now, we’ll probably start shooting it next summer.

If true, that would be a mighty fast turnaround; perhaps Paramount is hoping to get as many MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE films out of Tom Cruise as they can before he really does get too old to hang off of the side of planes. There was five years between MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL, and three years between GHOST PROTOCOL and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION. If production on the sixth film really does get underway as soon as Tom Cruise seems to think it will, we may be seeing another MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE film in theaters by 2017. Crikey.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION opens on July 31, 2015.
