Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Attention all you Master Builders out there! If you're missing the magic of LEGO this summer, you might want to stack your expectations for PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE, an animated adventure based on the iconic 1970s plastic figurines toyline. Much like LEGO, Playmobil toys are released as themed sets based on popular aspects of everyday life, including animal clinics, hospitals, racing events, vacation resorts, sports activities, circus acts, and much, much more! Viewed by the public as a mirror for LEGO, Playmobil has remained a beloved plaything for children and adults alike while offering collectors countless hours of fun as they display or use the figures to recreate many of the world's most exotic locales and situations involving historical figures.

Today, we've got a brand-spanking-new trailer for PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE, which highlights HORNS and Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe as Rex Dasher, a young James Bond-like superspy who's just as slick with the ladies as he is adept at handling the most harrowing of situations.

Here's the official synopsis for PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE:

In PLAYMOBIL’s animated action adventure, a top secret organization has caused citizens from different lands to vanish from thin air. The dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe) must partner with smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan) and Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) a smart, savvy civilian with her own secret agenda, to rescue them. Against unthinkable odds, the trio go on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds as they gather clues for their rescue mission.

Directing PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE from a screenplay penned by Blaise Hemingway and Greg Erb & Jason Oremland is Lino Disalvo (TANGLED, FROZEN). Starring alongside Radcliffe, Gaffigan and Taylor-Joy for the animated antics are Gabriel Bateman (CHILD'S PLAY, LIGHTS OUT), moedern-day Queen frontman Adam Lambert, SNL alum Kenan Thompson and pop sensation Meghan Trainor.

Aton Soumache, Dimitri Rassam, Moritz Borman, Alexis Vonarb, Alex Von Maydell, Timothy Burrill, and Bin Wu are producing, with plans to release the film in theaters soon.

While the film will undoubtedly draw comparisons to LEGO features of the past, moviegoers should know that PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE is looking to bring their own flourish of comedy and adventure to the big screen. Truth be told, Playmobil is still among the most popular toys of today, and a larger-than-life film such as this is bound to steal some of the build-a-brick company's spotlight, if only for a short time. My advice? Go out and enjoy this one, folks, because it looks like a heck of a lot of fun.
