Hella EXPENDABLES
Updates!
It wouldn’t be a week of action without something coming out of THE EXPENDABLES,
and this week is no different!
According to
ercBoxOffice, THE EXPENDABLES is eyeing April 23, 2010 as it’s
official release date!
A spring release for a movie like this is just the ticket, busting in before the
big summer movie season, and right after the flop-winter season has time to
breathe. With CRANK 2: HIGH
VOLTAGE hitting April 17th this year, it’ll be a
nice test to see how THE EXPENDABLES may end up doing. Except I expect THE
EXPENDABLES to be on a much larger scale, and will (hopefully) blow CRANK 2 out
of the water.
In other news, according to AICN (and confirmed by Sly
HERE), 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) has replaced Forest Whitaker as
Hale Caesar, and Eric Roberts has replaced Ben Kingsley as Monroe. Now that’s a
whole lot of recasting going on, and hopefully… all for the better. Say what
you will about Fitty, but the guy has more testosterone pumping through his
veins than Whitaker any day of the week… just not the acting skills. Least to
say, it should be interesting to see if he takes the role by the balls and earns
our respect (note to Fitty; reality TV not the best move on your part),
or if it’ll be just another rapper screwing up another movie.
As far as Roberts over Kingsley goes… I can dig it, yo. Keep it here for more
EXPENDABLES news as we hear it!

Another International CRANK 2 Poster!
There’s a brand new international poster for CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE courtesy of Lionsgate, and while it doesn’t kick nearly as much as the domestic posters (surprisingly enough), it does rock Jason Statham in “I’m going to shoot you” mode, and there ain’t nothing wrong with that!
The poster also has this 80s / 70s grindhouse action vibe going for it, which is pretty cool too. CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE hits theaters everywhere April 17th.

MACGYVER to the Big Screen!
According to THR, New Line Cinema is bringing MACGYVER, the hit action show from the 80s, to the big screen! I for one have been waiting for this to happen for some time now, as MacGyver is f*cking awesome. Just give him some chewing gum, duct tape, and a paper clip, and he could blow up half the world!
They’re currently looking for a script that can acknowledge how the concept has staked a place into pop culture yet still makes for a serious and fun adventure movie. They’ve done it with Bond many times over the years, I don’t see why they couldn’t do it with MacGyver!
New Line’s Richard Brenner also had this to say: We think we’re a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise. Yes, he really said that. Stick around for more MACGYVER news… this thing is gonna be awesome!

MERANTAU Footage!
The website for the upcoming martial arts extravangza MERANTAU went live this week, featuring the film’s latest trailer, new behind the scenes footage, and a buttload of images to ensure this movie will leave a boot print on your face after it kicks you in the head! Yes, it looks that cool!
While there’s the trailer and some new posters, the site is still lite in content, but promises to fill er up by the end of the month. MERANTAU goes like this: In Minangkabau, West Sumatera, Yuda a skilled practitioner of Silat Harimau is in the final preparations to begin his “Merantau” a century’s old rites-of-passage to be carried out by the community’s young men that will see him leave the comforts of his idyllic farming village and make a name for himself in the bustling city of Jakarta. After a series of setbacks leave Yuda homeless and uncertain about his new future, a chance encounter results in him defending the orphaned Astri from becoming the latest victim of a European human trafficking ring led by the wildly psychotic, Ratger and his right-hand man Lars. With Ratger injured in the mêlée and seeking both his “merchandise” and bloody retribution, Yuda’s introduction to this bustling city is a baptism of fire as he is forced to go on the run with Astri and her younger brother Adit as all the pimps and gangsters that inhabit the night hound the streets chasing their every step. With escape seemingly beyond their grasp, Yuda has no choice but to face his attackers in an adrenaline charged, jaw-dropping finale.
Got all that? Starring Iko Uwais, Sisca Jessica, and Christine Hakim, this flick is looking to karate chop it’s way to the top… we just have to wait for the release date to be announced before we can really do anything about it. Stick around!
