Suicide Squad Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

Ever since being introduced to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's excellent work on HBO's Oz, I've always been pleased to see his name pop in a variety of projects. Akinnuoye-Agbaje's latest project is the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD, although you likely won't be able to recognize the actor as he will be buried under the piles of latex it takes to become the Killer Croc. The actor recently spoke with Coming Soon about his role in the David Ayer film, including the work it took to get into makeup each day.

The head and shoulders are prosthetic that were glued onto my face and then the body down was painted. It took about five hours to do, but it was something that was a challenge that I was up for because I wanted to set a new standard for what can be done with prosthetics. We could have easily CGI’d this, but David [Ayer] was insistent on their being an actor to bring out the soul of the character. It gave me an opportunity to show what I could do with prosthetics.

I was actually a little surprised that they DIDN'T go the CG route with Killer Croc, but the prosthetics are looking quite fantastic so far and I can't wait to see the character in action. By the time SUICIDE SQUAD kicks off, Killer Croc is already "one of the baddest criminals known to be roaming in Gotham, hence his lockup in Arkham. He’s tangled with the Batman and here he is amongst these other foes. He’s very much a formidable force at the time that you meet him.” The actor did his research for the role, including looking into cannibalism and crocodiles, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje says that they've incorporated some of the real life fight techniques crocodiles use in the film, namely, the "death roll." We'll also get to see more than one scene with Killer Croc in the water.

Oh, you’re going to get more than one water scene! I’m a croc after all, man. That’s my territory!

SUICIDE SQUAD is due to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
