After jointly delivering one of the most disturbing films in cinematic history with Requiem for a Dream, Jared Leto and Darren Aronofsky are reteaming for a brand new feature. That project is an upcoming film titled Adrift, in which Leto will star with Aronofsky set to direct. Meanwhile, Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Leto and Emma Ludbrook through Leto’s production company Paradox, as will Carla Hacken.
Based on a short story by Koji Suzuki, who wrote The Ring, Adrift is set in the dead calm of the open sea, where a fishing boat discovers an abandoned yacht with a strange distress call. A deckhand agrees to take lone control of it while it’s towed into port, but soon he discovers why the rest of his more experienced crew members call it a “Ghost Ship.”
According to Deadline, the film is set to hit the market early in the week, and several buyers are already interested. Adrift is expected to sell because of course, it will, but Aronofsky doesn't plan on rolling into production for the new business until he's finished filming A24's The Whale with Brendan Fraser in March.
Jared Leto is attached to several upcoming projects, including The Little Things, which is set to be released in theaters and on HBO Max this Friday. Starring Leto, Denzel Washington, and Rami Malek, The Little Things tells the tale of two cops who are on the hunt for a serial killer. Directed and written by John Lee Hancock, The Little Things is the first tentpole to be released day-and-date on HBO Max as a part of Warner Bros.' bold streaming rollout for 2021. Leto is also in the midst of developing a sequel to Tron: Legacy, in which he is attached to star with Garth Davis set to direct. He is also contracted to be a part of Ridley Scott's Gucci as well as the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed. Good grief, and then there's the Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, in which he also stars as the film's title character. Does Jared Leto ever sleep? Maybe he truly is a living vampire and that's why Sony cast him as Dr. Michael Morbius? I'm onto you, Leto. You can't fool me.
