Alfonso Cuaron isn’t directing Shining prequel Overlook Hotel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Last week we posed the question “Is Alfonso Cuaron be checking into SHINING prequel THE OVERLOOK HOTEL?” This week we have an answer: Nope!

The Oscar-winning GRAVITY director, who was also rumored to be in line to helm an adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, recently stated he doesn’t have his next project lined up. And while he’s evidently a “big fan” of THE SHINING, he said that he’s “not up to date with the news saying that he would be a possible director for the prequel,” according to Agencia EFE (via Global Post).

The original report linking Cuaron to OVERLOOK was always a rumor at best, so this denial isn’t necessarily surprising. All it really means is Warner Bros. is presumably still on the hunt for a director fit to depict the terrifying story – penned by Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead”) – of the most evil hotel ever.
