The Alien franchise continues on the small screen with the “FX on Hulu” TV series Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The show premiered last August and quickly secured a renewal for a second season. While the first season was filmed in Thailand, the production has shifted over to Pinewood Studios (the same place where the original Alien was filmed) for season 2. The new season has been filming for a couple of months now – and Deadline has just revealed that the show has expanded its cast, with Tracey Ullman (Tracey Ullman’s Show), Sam Spruell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones) joining this new chapter of the series.
Ullman, Spruell, and Flynn join the returning cast from the critically acclaimed first season. The new additions reunite Spruell with Hawley, who previously worked with the actor on FX’s anthology series Fargo. Spruell appeared in Fargo season 5.
Returning cast members include Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver. Peter Dinklage was previously announced as a new addition for season 2.
FX has not revealed who Ullman, Spruell, or Flynn will be playing, and plot details for the second season remain under wraps.
What Is Alien: Earth About?
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth takes place before the events of Ridley Scott’s original 1979 film Alien and explores a future where Earth is controlled by five powerful corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. In season 1, the deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, leading Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to discover mysterious life forms unlike anything humanity has encountered before.
