Amblin to fight off an alien invasion once more in The Fall

Amblin Steven Spielberg The Fall

Amblin is returning to their roots. Following a directive that the company return to "high-concept thrill rides," they have acquired the rights to Aussie newcomer Joe Bridges' alien invasion script THE FALL. Negotiations began the weekend of the Fourth of July, presumably in a rush to snap up rights following the unfortunate international success of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE.

Here's the synopsis:

In the midst of an alien invasion, a freshly divorced couple must survive a dangerous real-time journey on foot from downtown Atlanta to the suburbs, where their young children are home alone.

Yeah, we've never heard that story before. I can't wait for the day when disasters are good for something other than getting estranged couples back together, but if Amblin can pump out another film on the level of WAR OF THE WORLDS or Spielberg's earlier CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, I'll shut my complaining trap.

More details as this story develops!
