‘American Beauty’ helmer Sam Mendes to direct Bond?

JoBloJoBlo

That’s right. You read the title correctly. Sam Mendes is in negotiations to direct the next Bond flick.

Very interesting choice. Mendes is a wonderful director, and this would be his first major action film.

Despite the possible sale of MGM, the production is being fast-tracked and could begin filming as early as June with a possible 2011 release. Regular Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are penning the script, along with Peter Morgan (FROST/NIXON). Daniel Craig will return as the dashing 007.

I’m fairly new to Bond fandom, but I think that Mendes could do some good with this. You’ve still got the same writers minus Paul Haggis and the same Bond, so really that’s all you need, right?
