Though American Horror Story‘s current incarnation, Hotel, has been met with decidedly mixed reactions throughout its first batch of episodes (our own Jake Dee’s been keeping tabs on it; check his reviews HERE), the FX series isn’t showing signs of waning in popularity thus far. So it goes that the network has renewed the AHS for a sixth season. (In other news, I’m over here thinking, “This show has been on for five years already?”)

Said FX Networks and FX Productions’ John Landgraf:

With the sixth installment coming next year, ‘American Horror Story’ has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series. From ‘Murder House’ to ‘Hotel,’ ‘AHS’ has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.”

Well, we can agree about the audacity; the excellence is in question.

According to Deadline, through its first four episodes, Hotel is 7% ahead of Freak Show among adults 18-49 and 1% among total viewers. The Hotel premiere was the second-most-watched telecast in FX Networks history, behind only the premiere episode of Freak Show. No doubt Lady Gaga’s appearance has helped make Hotel a must see for a certain segment of viewers, and it’s very possible Ryan Murphy will bring her back for another AHS chapter.

The first four seasons of American Horror Story have accumulated 71 Emmy Award nominations and 13 Emmy Award wins.
