Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart get baked for American Ultra posters

If you're wondering what the hell Lex Luthor and Snow White are doing getting high as a kite, then you're not alone! In a movie that probably doesn't require our lead characters to reach any level of level of sobriety, AMERICAN ULTRA follows a seemingly hapless and unmotivated Stoner, Mike (Jesse Eisenberg) whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Kristen Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive. I . . . was not expecting that! Check out the leads in the first two posters for the film.

When CHRONICLE hit, I was very impressed by both the directing of Josh Trank and the writing of Max Landis. We'll see if Trank has the directing chops when FANTASTIC FOUR hits later this year. Meanwhile, Landis has a ton of projects coming up in the near future. MR. RIGHT, ME HIM HER, AMERICAN ULTRA, and VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN are all scheduled to hit sometime in 2015, so no one can accuse the man of being lazy! With that said, ULTRA sounds like a kindred spirit to PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and given that Eisenberg and Stewart made for a good duo in ADVENTURELAND, I wouldn't be opposed to that at all!

AMERICAN ULTRA will hit theaters on August 21, 2015.

It's good to know that if Eisenberg needs a day off, Kristen Stewart could probably fill in as Lex Luthor for him.
