Ah, PLANET OF THE APES. What a weird movie franchise and even worse remake to come from such a talented group of people. I’ll never get the fascination with the damn dirty apes, but maybe our many Eric can explain it to me some day… guy simply loves ape movies.
Anyway, according to CHUD, there may be new APES prequel brewing over at 20th Century Fox called GENESIS: APES, which is essentially a remake of CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, telling the story of how the apes took over the planet. The one cool thing about this prequel story is that it would be set in modern times, and won’t be set in some silly sci-fi backdrop.
I’m still skeptical, mostly cause I don’t think the APES series is all that bankable anymore, but it looks like Tom Rothman (head Fox dude) is all about it, stating we are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story…
If it actually comes to light, it should be interesting to see who they bring on board to bring it to life. Maybe M. Night Shyalaman? I already know what his ‘twist’ ending will be: the damn dirty apes take over the planet! Bam! The end!
