Anaconda big-screen Meg-style reboot in the works!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Evidently ANACONDA is one of Sony's most profitable movies. And so it makes a bit of sense that today we hear Columbia Pictures wants to take a THE MEG approach to an all-new and all-modern reboot of the giant killer snake flick. While there is no producer attached at this point in time, we do know that TOMB RAIDER and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN screenwriter Evan Daugherty will pen the script.

Daugherty’s take is not a remake or a sequel but a reimagining. Heaven help us. And while plot details are being kept under wraps, Sony wants to take a MEG-style approach. Meaning, the studio wants to take a simple and relatively cheap B-movie and beef up its scope and budget.

Sounds good to me!

The original movie starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Kari Wuhrer, Jonathan Hyde, Owen Wilson, Danny Trejo, and Frank Welker as the voice of the Anaconda (true story). It told the tale of

Filmmaker Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez) who is traveling deep in the Amazon jungle looking for a forgotten tribe. Terri and her crew, which includes an anthropologist (Eric Stoltz) and a cameraman (Ice Cube), come across Paul (Jon Voight), who is stranded on the riverbank. He offers to help them find the tribe, but his secretive behavior puts everyone on edge. They realize too late that he's using them to find a legendary anaconda that's worth a fortune — if they can catch it.

ANACONDA was directed by Luis Llosa and produced by Verna Harrah, Carol Little, and Leonard Rabinowitz. Hans Bauer, Jim Cash, and Jack Epps Jr. penned the script. Columbia Pictures unleashed it into theaters back on April 11, 1997. Buy the original on Blu-ray HERE.
