When writing about the Netflix movie HOW IT ENDS recently, I mentioned that I have found the idea of taking a trip across a post-apocalyptic America to be fascinating ever since I watched the mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand at a young age. So the newly announced comic book adaptation ANIMOSITY instantly has my attention by promising to be about a road trip across a post-apocalyptic America.
Based on the AfterShock Comics title created by Marguerite Bennett, ANIMOSITY will be set in
a world plunged into chaos as newly intelligent animals gain the power of speech and fight humanity and one other. In the midst of the turmoil is Jesse, an 11-year-old girl, and her dog, Sandor, who is devoted to her and acts as her protection. A year later, Jesse and Sandor begin a cross-country journey to find Jesse’s half-brother, Adam, who lives in San Francisco.
Legendary Entertainment has acquired the worldwide rights to the movie, which is being produced by AfterShock Media president Lee Kramer and CEO Jon Kramer. Jon Silk is overseeing the project for Legendary.
ANIMOSITY sort of sounds like a PLANET OF THE APES movie with a broader range of speaking animals, and it's going to have quite a challenge to live up to the special effects of the APES movies. Regardless, this project is appealing to me because I was daydreaming about post-apocalyptic travels when I was the age of its lead character… and if I had hit the road as an 11-year-old Mad Max, I definitely would have had pets with me, too.
