TWILIGHT author Stephanie Meyer is teaming with Lionsgate to produce DOWN A DARK HALL, an adaptation of a 1974 supernatural suspense novel written by Lois Duncan. While the TWILIGHT connection isn't a draw for me, the director that has been chosen to bring this project to life immediately gives it some strong promise: taking the helm is Rodrigo Cortes, director of BURIED and RED LIGHTS.
AnnaSophia Robb (THE REAPING) and Isabelle Fuhrman (ORPHAN) have been cast to star in the film, which will follow
the newest student at a boarding school who confronts the darkly seductive powers of the headmistress and comes face to face with the supernatural abilities that could make her all-powerful or destroy her.
Meyer's fellow producers include Meghan Hibbett, Wyck Godrey, Marty Bowen, and Adrian Guerra. Issac Klauser and Nuria Valls are executive producing. Nostromo Pictures and Atresmedia Cine have provided the financing.
The works of Duncan, who passed away earlier this year, have served as the basis of several films over the years, including the 1978 Wes Craven TV movie SUMMER OF FEAR (a.k.a. STRANGER IN OUR HOUSE) and the 1997 slasher I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. Duncan's novel was not a slasher story, so she wasn't very happy with that film.
DOWN A DARK HALL is currently filming in Barcelona.
